About the hike
Trip Date:
Saturday, April 11, 2026. This is the peak period for spring flowers in Trascău.
After many wanderings through Gilău and Muntele Mare, it is time to focus on the beauty of the Trascău Mountains. We propose a complete circuit that will take us to the roof of the massif, offering a varied experience from gorges to the ridge.
The Story of Our Trail Starting Point (Feneșasa Valley):
Access is via the Feneșasa Valley, passing through the spectacular Feneș Gorges (Cheile Caprei), where we will admire the limestone blocks.
The Complex Circuit:
The Steep Climb: We begin the circuit following the Blue Triangle marker, with a short but steep climb through the forest – this being the most demanding portion of the day.
Flower Meadows: The trail levels out and continues on a "network of forest roads," leading us to meadows and pastures where, in mid-April, a true spectacle awaits: carpets of cowslips and other colorful flowers.
Cheile Caprei Viewpoint: We will take a short detour following the Red Dot marker to reach the viewpoint that offers an amazing perspective over the Caprei Gorges.
The Two Peaks: We will conquer the highest peak, Dâmbău Peak (1369 m), from where, on clear days, Muntele Mare and the Retezat Mountains can be seen. Then, we will descend towards Părăginoasa Meadow and climb the second peak of the day, Părăginoasa Peak (1292 m).
In short: A WONDERFUL trail with everything: peaks, pastures, flowers, viewpoints, forests, and an elevation gain that will offer full satisfaction!
