The Story of the Route
Many things are legendary in Maramures. But the boss is still Pietrosul!
We're going on a weekend trip to two of the most beautiful and diverse mountain landscapes in northern Romania: Pietrosul Rodnei Peak (2303 m) and the spectacular Creasta a Cocoșului.
Day 1 is serious. A long and demanding hike awaits us through the Rodna Mountains National Park, to the highest peak in the Eastern Carpathians. We will climb through forests, alpine valleys and glacial calderas, and the panorama at the top is wonderful, as you can imagine.
We will have approximately 16 km and almost 1300 m of elevation gain. That is, exactly the kind of tour after which you feel like you have done something memorable… both with your legs and with your soul.
Day 2 we completely change the pace. After the serious tour from Rodnei, we head to Creasta Cocoșului — probably the most photogenic ridge in Maramures.
In short: two very different days. And very beautiful.

Additional information
Itinerary
We leave Cluj on Friday evening, so that on Saturday morning we can go straight to the trail. The first day is dedicated to the ascent of Pietrosul Rodnei (2303 m), the highest peak in the Eastern Carpathians.
The climb: The route climbs steadily through the forest and then through the spectacular alpine area of the Rodna Mountains. By the time we get close to the weather shelter, we'll probably start wondering why we didn't choose a city break. But the view from the top quickly solves the problem.
Please don't ask us if it's hard so we don't have to lie to you that it's easy :), the honest answer is: yes, it's a demanding hike. But for those with patience, good physical condition and a real mountain spirit, Pietrosul is one of the peaks that is really worth it.
Check point: We will reach Pietrosul Rodnei — 2303 m
We will have approximately 16 km and almost 1300 m of elevation gain.
The return: We descend on the same spectacular route, and on Sunday we move to the Gutâi Mountains for a completely different tour in atmosphere.
Creasta Cocosului: We will do an easy/moderate circuit of approximately 14 km and 600 m elevation gain, perfect for coming back after the previous day. There are no technical difficulties, but it is beautiful and definitely worth it.
