The Story of the Route

A year ago we started doing the Up the Mountains tours.

A year later, we celebrate in one of our favorite places.

This time we go to Rimetea , for a crossing of approximately 14 km , with +720 m difference in elevation , which takes us from the old iron mines to the Trascău Fortress in Colțești .

On the route we have history, forest, animal tracks, that beautiful village and some of the most famous landscapes in the Trascău area.

Practical Details

The price includes

  • Mountain hiking guide / Certified international mountain leader

  • Full support

The price doesn't include

  • Transport

  • Meals and personal expenses

A year ago I didn't know exactly where this story would end up. Now we have a year of tours, people who have come back many times, people who have come only once, and people I have met directly on the mountain.

So we don't do a pompous event. We do what we know how to do: we go to the mountains in the morning, walk for a few hours, discover a new place, laugh, get tired, and in the end, we eat something good.

Additional information

Itinerary

We start near the village of Rimetea , from where we begin the climb to the area of the old iron mines .

Here the mountain tells a story that is less visible today: before it was a place for hiking and photography, the area was exploited for its resources. We will pass by places where traces of these exploitations are still visible and we will talk about how people worked here.

After the mine area, we enter the forest and continue crossing towards Colțești .

Here we change the pace a bit: instead of just looking for the markings, we look past them. We look for wild boar, deer, fox tracks , and any other clues that show us that the forest is inhabited by others, not just hikers.

The route reaches approximately 960 m altitude , and as we gain height, increasingly beautiful perspectives appear towards Rimetea and Piatra Secuiului – the sleeping giant that dominates the area.

Autumn is probably the best time for this route: the forest begins to change from green to yellow and copper, and the contrast between the colors of the forest, the farms of Rimetea, and the limestone of Szekler Stone is exactly the reason why it is worth coming here in October.

In the final part, we descend to Colțești , where we visit the last objective of the tour: Trascău Fortress , built at a time when the Transcaucasian people literally and figuratively wielded the sword.

From here we only have the most important part of the anniversary: chocolate cake, pancakes or something else good. Because after 14.6 km and 720 m of elevation gain, any dessert becomes food for athletes. :)
