Cultural & Historical Tour: The Treasures of Roșia Montana

This hike combines millennia of history with stunning natural scenery. We will start with an underground excursion, followed by exploration of geological monuments, lakes, and the settlement.

START (Underground Visit): Roman Mines!

• The highlight of the day and our first objective: visiting the Roman underground galleries (Alburnus Maior) .

• Here were discovered the 50 wax tablets (essential instruments of Roman law) that brought Roșia Montană international fame. We will explore the heart of this universal heritage!

  
  

  Surface Circuit (Landscape and Culture):

  • Mining Cultural Landscape: We will continue with an easy hike on the surrounding hills to enjoy the landscape shaped by centuries, admiring the artificial lakes ( tăurile ) and dams.

  • Natural Monuments & Lookouts: Our route will take us past Piatra Corbului , a spectacular geological site, and we will have extensive views of the famous Detunate .

  • Heritage on the Surface: We will explore the settlement, admiring the local architecture (including houses said to hide secrets!) and see the diversity of churches (Orthodox, Greek-Catholic, Roman-Catholic), testimonies of the cosmopolitan society during the Habsburg Empire.
